Chase for a Cure

Dear South Delta Minor Hockey Families,

On August 2023, I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Burkitt Lymphoma/Leukemia, a moment that changed my life forever. The news was overwhelming, filled with uncertainty and fear. However, I quickly realized that I had to face this challenge head-on.

My journey began with emergency life saving surgery. I was then transferred as an in-patient to the VGH Leukemia Bone Marrow Unit to begin months of extensive chemotherapy. Each step had its difficulties, from the physical side effect, the need for numerous blood transfusion, to emotional struggles. I leaned on my family, friends and the hockey community for support, finding strength in their love and encouragement.

December 19th marks the one-year anniversary date of my last chemo infusion. I want to celebrate the date by raising awareness and funds to honour the team of doctors and nurses who guided me though this challenging time and continue to support and treat me though my recovery.

Today, I am proud to say I am cancer free. This experience has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, hope and the power of the human spirit. I am committed to raising awareness about cancer and supporting others who are on a similar journey.

My battle with cancer has shaped who I am today, and I am determined to honour all the remarkable people that stood by me and make a positive impact in the lives of others facing this disease.

Together, we can fight cancer and emerge stronger Chase Boutilier
