Party in Da House Rec Boys 2010.11

Party in Da House Tournament

This year marks the 7th year for the South Delta Minor Hockey “Party in da House” Christmas tournament. What started out 6 years ago as a tournament for 6 atom aged teams has now grown into a tournament that includes all 25 “C” division boys teams in South Delta Minor Hockey. This year over 400 athletes from age 8 to 18 will lace up and hit the ice for this exciting and fun tournament.

This year's annual in-house  tournament will take place at LLC and Tilbury with games beginning Dec. 28 and running until Jan 2. More details will become available later in September.

The teams in each division are competing for the right to represent South Delta in the annual Delta Cup competition. The Delta Cup takes place in March and features one team from South Delta vs one team from North Delta in each division from Atom - Midget.

This tournament is often the highlight of the season for many of these athletes. Not many teams get involved in traveling out of town to tournaments and so for many of these teams this will be their only tournament experience this year.

Besides great hockey games the tournament also features a skills competition in each of the divisions. Athletes test their skating, puck handling, shooting and goal tending skills in a special competition which is exciting to watch.

The tournament has become a great community event. Many local businesses have provided financial sponsorship or donated prizes to the tournament raffle. As well the teams compete in a food drive to see which team can bring in the most food which in turn is donated to the Delta Food Bank. We call this initiative “Hockey for Hunger” and last year alone we raised 1,200 pounds of food for the Delta Food Bank.       We also have a Canuck Place challenge. During the tournament parents are encouraged to donate a loonie every time their team scores a goal. Last year we were able to donate $500.00 to Canuck Place, Vancouver’s Hospice for Terminally Ill children.

This tournament is a great opportunity to watch so many of our local youth compete in hockey. It is a win win for everyone involved!!
